TAROT – The Fool’s Journey

A one-day introductory workshop.

Sunday 22nd September 2013
10am – 5pm

Special low price of £40.

During this one day workshop we will be exploring the journey of The Fool as she/he travels through the Major Arcana (Trump cards) of the Tarot, meeting the characters and archetypes which form the basis of all card readings.

As we journey through life we all meet challenges and trials which can help us to grow and learn if we choose to take them on. If we are fearful and back away we find that we are presented with the same challenges time and again. We are left feeling unfulfilled, blinkered and powerless.

The archetypical Hero’s Journey is the subject of many legends, fairy stories, books and films. Think of The Hobbit, The Odyssey, Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, the myths and legends of every ancient culture. These tales can inspire us, giving us strength to take a leap of faith in our own life.

The Fool’s Journey through the Major Arcana of the Tarot is one such tale. Walking beside the Fool we become her/his companion, not an onlooker, therefore dispelling fear and misunderstandings which may have been indoctrinated either culturally, religiously or through our own misguided perception.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who holds a fascination with Tarot, from total novices to experienced readers, and who wishes to deepen her/his connection with this most evocative of psychological tools.

We will be looking briefly at the history of Tarot, what it actually is, introducing the cards, walking the Fool’s Journey and learning how to string the cards together in order to form a story by expanding our imagination and intuition.

We will also be giving readings to each other. I am fully aware that some people may feel intimidated by this for various reasons. I must stress that ANYONE can read the cards. The only restrictions are those we impose on ourselves. So the more we are able to expand our intuition and imagination the more the cards will speak to us. There will be a guided visualisation to help achieve this.

I am keeping numbers to a maximum of eight per workshop. I need an even number, so you may be invited to change dates if possible.

If you have a pack of Tarot cards that you love, and want to work with feel free to bring them along. Also please bring a packed lunch and water, and wear comfortable clothing.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Psychic connection, parental conditioning or genes?

Interesting to hear that my daughter has been pining for rain and thunderstorms. She too has been fantasising that she hears rainfall in the middle of the night, and when she looks it is all an illusion!

I thought it was just me!

A Summer’s day

The sound of the surf gently lapping onto the shore, wheeling gulls and soaring skylarks? The sight of pollen-laden bees flitting between yellow buttercups, vipers bugloss and wild buddleia, white cliffs against blue sea?

Taking time out of the daily routine when the weather is so kind to us, we can enjoy the gifts of Nature. It is a Universally known fact that we English love to complain about so many things. Complaining brings our energy down, and lowers the endorphins – our happy cells – in our bodies. Opening our awareness to the positives in life attracts more of the same. It also makes us more attractive to others.

Easier to do when the sun is shining. I personally love a whopping great thunderstorm as it feeds something primal deep inside. Why not try to see the positives in all aspects of the changing weather? The smell of woodland after rain; the glistening dewdrops on spiders’ webs in the mist; glorious sunsets on frosty days; the lush feel of wet grass or mud between bare toes; soul-stirring, howling winds on a clifftop; swirling leaves in an Autumn gale.

Appreciation of all seasons and weather conditions brings us closer to the realisation that our spirit is the same spirit that flows through all of existence.

Tree of the Week – The Sea

OK, I do know the Sea isn’t a tree! It is one of the Ogham symbols, however – Mor. Mor - Sea

Mor is one of the “extra” Fedha (trees) of the Ogham system. They are are called Forfedha. The five symbols for the Sacred Grove-Koad; Spindle-Oir; Honeysuckle-Uilleand; Beech-Phagos and Sea-Mor were added to the original twenty at a later date. To me, this supports the Druids’ belief that fluidity and change were essential to inherent wisdom.

In Celtic Earth Magic Mor is one of the six Master symbols. It is awakened in the energy field of a student when they have progressed through and completed the first three levels, and are ready to surrender to the world of Earth Magic, true enlightenment and the secrets of the Spiritual aspects of the rest of Nature.

The Sea is said to hold hidden secrets yet to be discovered. All bodies of water connect to our subconscious and unconscious. There are depths of the oceans which cannot be reached, just as there are depths within us which cannot be analysed and explained. These are the mysteries which align to our Spiritual selves – the part of us which is Divine.

If we sit quietly by the sea, close our eyes and align our breathing to the ebb and flow of the tide we may begin to get a sense of these hidden depths within ourselves. The more we expand our awareness and step outside of the “thinking” box the closer we get to flowing in tune with the rhythm of the rest of Nature. This is when she may open herself to us, and trust us to respect and honour her secrets.

When a student receives this beautiful symbol into their energy field the mysteries of the ocean begin to sparkle in their consciousness like sunlight on water.

Baby pandas

Currently doing the rounds on Facebook is a short video of baby pandas going down a slide with a Chinese keeper.

Where are the parents of these babies, I asked myself, knowing that it is notoriously difficult to get pandas to breed?

Well, the answer is that these babies are taken from their mothers at a few weeks old, leaving them both traumatised. In the wild pandas live with their mothers until they are around two years old. These poor captive babies are raised by humans for their sperm and eggs, then released into the wild, where they have no chance of survival, dying slowly of starvation. The Giant Panda is a gentle, intelligent creature. Please raise awareness of this heartless practice. Thanks.

Please let everyone know these facts when you get this video, and don’t tick “like”.

Tarot Workshop

I am thinking of running a one-day workshop on an introduction to the Tarot, and before I do would like to get an idea of how many people would be interested.

Generally, I get the impression that a lot of people are either: scared of the power of the cards; do not understand them; have been indoctrinated with negative beliefs about them; have tried to read them and failed; would like to be able to read them, but think one needs special powers to do so; have tried to learn from books but end up frustrated; are unaware that Tarot can be taught; think a reading will negate their free will; think the images are scary and negative etc. etc.

The workshop I have in mind would aim to dispel all of these fears and misunderstandings, covering topics such as: a brief history of the Tarot; what it actually is; introducing the cards; exploring the Fool’s journey, and meeting the archetypes and characters who appear along the way. (This adventure is the typical ancient Hero’s journey, as depicted in multiple films, myths and legends, e.g. The Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, The Odyssey, Perseus, Taliesin, Cu Chullainn, Star Wars, Harry Potter. All cultures have their tales of the naive, self-indulgent youth who sets out on a quest, facing characters and challenges along the way which test him/her, facilitating the chance for growth and eventual evolution into Hero.)

We will learn how to string the cards together to form a story, which is the way a Tarot reading comes to life. In my experience untutored novice readers can tend to look at the cards individually, restricting their own intuition and imagination. This will be the fun part of the workshop, where we get to read for each other. There are so many aspects of Tarot cards to be explored. I am constantly amazed at their flexibility and wisdom.

If you, or anyone you know are interested, it would be great for me to have an idea of what you would like from a workshop. I will aim to keep the cost low, depending on the number of interested participants. All queries will be confidential, and answered individually.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Bullfinch

I am VERY excited, as I have just seen a bullfinch in my Hawthorn tree! I haven’t seen one of these glorious birds in years. When I used to help with apple picking the farmer would  trap the males in cages, so their distress calls would warn off other birds. How things have changed in a relatively short time. Now their crimson colours are seldom seen.
