Winter Solstice or the End of the World

21st December 2012 is a date about which there has been a lot of speculation.

I read with awe and admiration the calculations of the mathematical and scientific geniuses (or should that be genii?) who claim to calculate the famous Mayan calendar, which is said to predict the end of the fifth great cycle of 5,126 years, and perhaps the end of our planet too.

Others proclaim to have “channelled” various messages predicting that this is a time when the wheat will be sorted from the chaff; in other words, those of us who have led a blameless and puritanical life will survive (either in Greenland, or on a mountain-top with like-minded souls), and those who have been given the black spot of doom will perish.

I personally think I would rather go the way of the doomed ones than to be stuck on a mountain with only other people like me, so I rebelliously am going down the optimistic route, and am choosing to welcome in the rebirth of The Divine Feminine. Hurrah!!

More love; more compassion; more integration; respect for ALL our relations – the two-legged, the four-legged, the creepy-crawlers, the finned, the furred and the winged ones, not to mention those who have their roots in the Earth. Less greed; less oppression and suppression; less exploitation; less cruelty and dishonouring. Bring it on.

We all know that what we think about we manifest, so the more of us who choose to visualize this world of Peace and Love the more likely it is to happen.

So I am holding a ceremony to do just that, on Seaford Head in East Sussex at 11-11 on the 21st, meeting in the car park at 10-30. It is a Friday, so many people will be at work, which doesn’t mean you can’t add your energy to ours at 11-11. People from France, Italy, Japan and Australia are joining in, so let’s create a world where the air is pure, the rivers run clean and sparkling again, and people walk in harmony with one another and all the other inhabitants of our beautiful planet.

See you there, unless of course a meteor comes zooming in and blows us all into outer space.

Tea House

20121105-090205.jpg

This is a tea house, where the ladies dress in kimono, and perform the ancient Japanese art of the tea ceremony.
No tea bags here, but specially brewed tea served in hand- thrown cups ( no handles).
I have realised that the English way of pouring boiling water on the leaves actually burns the tea, and we don’t really savour the taste. I hope this appreciation lasts when I get home, and am gulping my mug of Earl Grey!

Celtic Earth Magic level II

This is an amazing Cedar in a central Tokyo park. Cedars hold a very particular energy which is difficult to explain.

First weekend

The first weekend of Celtic Earth Magic was held in a venue near the Tokyo Tower.
What a spectacular edifice that is! Like something from War of the Worlds straddling central Tokyo in all its blood-red, metallic giant Meccano glory. (Is that how you spell Meccano?). Apologies if not.

It’s interesting, and very satisfying to see the students on the level I courses. Very quiet, respectful and shy. I have to go around the circle and ask them individually to share their experiences. Then by the second day, when the trees and Earth have worked their magic, they look glowing and happy, and begin to chat away to each other. Many of them have made lasting friendships, and gather regularly to connect with Nature, and perform ceremonies.

My goodness, how I LOVE my work!!

I am assured that every time I have run these courses out here the students are all of a type – quiet, intuitive and lovers of Nature. So I am very lucky, as I have heard some stories about difficult students with other facilitators!

I am keeping my fingers crossed about taking and publishing photographs. The giant Buddha made it, but I have no idea how he got there! So if there are blog entries referring to photos, but no photos attached they will probably pop up in another entry!!!

I can hear all you technophobes groaning in despair!

The Buddha at Kamakura

This is an experiment, as I forgot to pack the cable from camera to iPad, so please forgive me if it comes out as gobbledygook!!!

Tokyo

I am so thrilled to be back in Japan once more.
My flight was really comfortable. What a difference between economy and premium economy when you have reasonably long legs!

I was welcomed back by the mosquitoes yesterday when visiting a park which will be a new venue for Celtic Earth Magic level 1. The temperature is 24 degrees, and guess who packed only warm clothing?

Starting work today, with Munay-Ki sessions, and a seminar tonight.

Hotel room

I was looking for the bedroom and bathroom in the beautiful hotel room on retreat, but there was neither.

When you are at dinner the staff come in and lay a futon for you. The showers are with the hot spring baths, so the protocol is that you wash your hair and shower with luxurious products provided, then you have a dip in the hot spring water. What a way to start the day! I will have to overcome my British reserve next time, and use the baths like everyone else. I have a feeling that I will be getting up very early, however. I don’t think I can face dipping in a communal bath with the students!

Celtic Earth Magic level III students

Some of the students who have already done level III wanted to come on retreat, so they made magic wands in a circle around a table outside – a real coven of witches. You may be able to see some of the finished products.

Retreat in the mountains

Celtic Earth Magic level III was held in the mountains.

What a wonderful experience! All the elements were at their most powerful. We had intermittent rain and a huge natural lake. We had wind in the trees, sunshine and the rich, fertile Earth. The mountains were at times shrouded in mists, and then lit up with sunshine. Hawks flew above us, and water lapped at the shores of the lake. There was woodland with ancient twisted branches, and that intoxicating smell of wet wood and earth.

We lay on the Earth with rain on our faces, listening to the sound of birds calling, and the wind in the leaves, connected to Nature Spirits and walked the woods, discovering multi-coloured fallen branches, leaves and seeds. We sat on rocks in the lake gazing at the ever-changing faces of the mountains, and relaxed in the company of like-minded souls.

We had a fire one evening, around which the students shared their experiences, and received their initiations. I told a story of Arthur and Merlin, then ended the day with a bath in natural hot-spring water. Bliss!

Of course there were hilarious and surreal bits too, such as the pirate ship which takes people across to the Shinto shrine on the other side of the lake, and the swan-shaped boats, while the only real swans were a pair of stuffed ones with a chick and eggs in the hotel foyer. Yukari and I avoided looking at those when we went past.

I have a feeling that with any luck we will be returning when I run level IV in a few months time.
