Girls in kimono

The little one took one look at me and had a tantrum!

The girls celebrate their third, fifth and seventh birthdays by dressing up in kimono and having a party. A lot of women do this too. It is a beautiful sight, and so elegant.

It’s interesting to see these traditionally magical numbers having the same significance over here.

I have booked a shiatsu treatment after work this evening. Everything is crunching – I don’t think I have recovered from the flight over yet. They do not speak English in the shiatsu salon. Do you think the word for “Ouch” is Universal?

First weekend workshop

Well, the weather was glorious, and the location superb. Students were eager, so just what I asked for.

I had to change the schedule several times, but will have it all sussed out for next time. They are very interested in communicating with trees, and the Celtic way of life, so lots of material to pull from.

I never thought I would see my name highlighted at the entrance to the Science Museum! I know it’s not the one in London, but there’s time!

Pictures speak louder than words, so here you go.

Had enough of trees? Too bad! More to come!!

I went to dinner with Shigeko in the centre of Tokyo. It was like being in the middle of Bladerunner! – Raining too! (Anthea-you will have to ask someone).

It was as if we had known each other for years, and the time flew by. I have met some truly lovely people. The waitresses wore kimono, and Shikego took me to a traditional kimono shop. I wasn’t allowed to touch the fabrics, though, and my fingers were itching to!

Next exciting thing is the two-day workshop tomorrow. More trees! There is a museum in the grounds, and I really want to sneak off and look at the ceramics.

Hope snow in England was just a myth.

Emperor’s Garden and seminar

Had my first full night’s sleep last night since getting here! Hurrah!

Possibly because my day began with visiting the Emperor’s Garden to search for the relatives of trees we will be working with. The Science Museum is located within the garden, which is our venue for this weekend. What a beautiful place! we only covered the area near the museum, but would love to explore the whole garden another time.

Had lunch in a place called Roppongi Hills, which is a huge shopping complex, much more sophisticated than Bluewater, I must say! Strange to hear “Jingle Bells” playing though!

My evening seminar went very well. The place was full, and so many people welcomed me and said how glad there were to meet me. It is probably Japanese politeness, and I had loads of hugs too, which is always nice. I was interviewed by a national womens’ magazine. You never know if your answers are inane, do you? I think the evening went well. There were certainly lots of questions.

Today I am passing on more Munay-Ki rites, and this evening I am having dinner with a friend of Stuart’s mum-in-law. She is also taking me to a beautiful Shinto shrine next week.

Stuart has sent me a link to a stone circle here in Japan. I am excited about checking that out, even though I won’t be able to visit it this time.

The photos on the blog are only a few of the ones I have taken, so on my day off tomorrow I will upload more. One thing that thrilled me yesterday was the sight of a gathering of ravens at a stream. They were all communicating with each other. Reminded me of a gathering of Druids at a sacred grove. Anyone know what a collection of ravens is called?

Oh, and Emily Ticehurst – I tried to e-mail you, but it was sent back. Can you send another message when you have time, and I will chat.

More news and pics to follow.

Trees in Azabu Park, Shinto shrine and Buddhist Temple

Visited the local park yesterday, which is very beautiful, if manicured. I wish I knew what the trees were, although I do feel sometimes that less knowledge the better. Just admire beauty for what it is.

I hope the photos come out. I took loads more, which I will show you when I get home.

My first Japanese Earthkeeper!

Hello everyone,

I have been working really hard, and the students are all so eager to learn. I have to be very strict with my time, however, to allow for interpretation.

I am off to the Emperor’s Palace garden tomorrow, where the first Celtic Earth Healing workshop will take place, then have an everning seminar. The season is a little behind us, so the leaves are turning into the beautiful Autumn golds and bronzes. The sparrows here are a little brighter than at home, with white collars. Their voices are more musical and higher pitched. I have ravens who perch on the roof outside my apartment. I listen to their wisdom every day for assurance and guidance.

On the flight over we passed thousands of miles of snow-covered mountains. I got told off by the stewardess for opening the wondow shutters, but the sunrise was breathtaking, with pinks, oranges and golds reflecting off those frozen peaks. It was over Northern Russia, and I wondered whether this was the original lands of the Laika. I told myself it was, and gave heartfelt thanks to the Ancestors for Munay-Ki.

My first interpreter, Yukari, showed me a photograph she had found in a junk shop of two of the indigenous Japanese people called the Ainu. Like many other native peoples they have been driven into a remote part of the mountainous regions of the main island. They looked quite tall, beautiful and dignified. the lady had a tattoo around her mouth, and they both wore intricate kimono.

I am going to try and take some photos of a shrine today, although it is wet and windy here.

Keep warm. Lots of love
